Chandigarh, 20st June. That horrible era of 1984 disrupted a number of families in Punjab. People lost their houses, they were killed without a reason but there was no corner for their grievances. ‘Punjab 1984’ is a story of such a family where a mother spends her whole day sitting outside the police station and there is no one to listen to her. This lady is Satwant Kaur whose son went out to work in the fields one day and never returned. This saga of a mother’s pain and a son’s fight is being brought to the screen by White Hill Productions and Basic Brothers Productions. Veteran actress Kirron Kher is playing the mother and the star of Punjabi cinema Diljit Dosanjh is playing the son. Super hit films giver Anurag Singh has directed this movie and also written the story and the screenplay. The film has been produced by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Sidhu. Pawan Malhotra, Sonam Bajwa, Arun Bali, Rana Ranbir, Manav Vij and Vishwas Kini will also be seen in the film. The promotional tour of the film took off from Chandigarh on Saturday where Diljit Dosanjh, Sonam Bajwa, Pawan Malhotra, Gunbir Sidhu and Anurag Singh were present.

On this occasion, a new initiative came into light with the digital music launch of the film. India Largest Digital Distribution Network SHOTFORMATS and region’s leading PR firm PRINDAY have ensured to launch the music of PUNJAB 1984 in the form of a digital album. Being operated under the brand name of Biscoot, the digital music album of PUNJAB 1984 will be distributed not only on app stores like Google Play Store, iTunes & other digital stores across the online space but also across 4300 retail outlets in India – directly to be loaded on users’ mobile phones. The digital music album is an online as well as offline application, which showcases music, videos, exclusive images, create your own ring back tone feature and other details on the film. SHOTFORMATS from Rakesh said that the beauty of it is all the content is DRM protected and cannot be shared via blue tooth to other devices, the offline application doesn’t require internet to operate. All it needs is a good battery charge on your device. This is our effort to fight against piracy. Speaking on behalf PRINDAY, Prabhjot Mahant said that we always have an endeavor to come up with newer things in the industry. Once again we have stepped far ahead of others by innovating such a concept.

Anurag Singh has given a number of hit Punjabi films teaming up with Diljit Dosanjh earlier. He said that Diljit Dosanjh is such an actor who never learns the dialogues word to word. Rather, he understands the scene and the situation and improvises accordingly. Making ‘Punjab 1984’ has been a life changing experience for me. I have realised what extraordinary courage these seemingly ordinary and simple women in the villages of Punjab have.

Diljit Dosanjh learnt a lot while working with Kirron Kher and Pawan Malhotra. He said who would not like to work with such senior and one of the oldest members of the industry. I believe that I have taken many steps forward with this film as a student of acting. On the other hand Pawan Malhotra said that he is proud to work in a Punjabi film as it connects him to his roots. He is extremely happy for being chosen for this character.

The music of the film was released a few days back on Speed Records which is being highly appreciated all over. Music has been composed by Gurmeet Singh, Nick Dhammu, Jatinder Shah and Gurmoh. Veet Baljit, Raj Ranjodh, Jagvir Sohi and Dr. Tejinder Harjit have penned the lyrics. Out of five, Diljit has sung four songs. Anurag Singh himself is a part of the music production. One song from the album ‘Ammi Udeekdi’ has been penned by him only.

Gunbir Sidhu has been associated with almost every big and best film of Punjabi industry. He told that this film is a story of mother-son relationship with which everybody relates to. When Anurag Singh came up with the script, there was no point to say no to this project.
