Hero-Naam Yaad Rakhi – Movie Review

Even though Jimmy Sheirgill isn’t doing back to back Punjabi movies like few years back but still who can forget his name. Hero – Naam Yaad Rakhi is his new venture with huge expectations to be a Jimmy Shergill special blockbuster.

About Story –
The plot revolves around Harinder Singh Dhillon aka Hero (Jimmy Shergill) who has been called to Canada by his brother Jeet (Mukul Dev). His life turns when he sees Eena (Surveen Chawla) in a road accident and falls in first sight love. Then happens what’s always expected and even more, what’s hardly expected.

What’s Good –
First 30 minutes story, shot making by Baljit Singh Deo (Director) throughout the movie and on top of everything, the character played by Surveen Chawla is the best thing which one can find in the movie.

What’s Not –
The same problem which was seen in Baljit Singh Deo’s previous movies, has been occurred once more. The story takes too much time to build and leaves too much for the climax which couldn’t get fulfilled even then. The movie makes you think after every minute that something is about to happen but it doesn’t.

About Characters –
Undoubtedly Jimmy Shergill is one of the best actors of Punjabi movies of all times and he always goes through his character ever so smoothly. But he is good for much more than he is used for in Punjabi movies, especially in his previous few movies. He is a big-big actor and should be given much bigger roles than just delivering normal dialogs and singing songs. Well if Hero has to be best at something then it’s definitely on Surveen Chawla’s character. She never left anything to prove with her acting but she looks all new and on top of her acting in this movie. Mukul Dev and Shivendra Mahal are good as always. Jaggi Singh looks a promising prospect.

About Direction –
Baljit Singh Deo is a great director when it comes to shot making perhaps the best one in Punjabi movies. He used the locations very well and made some ordinary scenes look terrific but unfortunately he couldn’t tighten the grip on the story line. It could have been a far better movie than it is if the story had been covered in a better way.

About Story, Screenplay & Dialogs –
There is not much to applause from any of the three most important facts of the movie, the story, screenplay and dialogs.

About Music –
Music is one part of Hero which brings some positivity and excitement in the movie. Sohneya Sajjna by Sunidhi Chauhan & Ankit Tiwari, Deed Teri by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Naina by Kamal Khan are the pick of the songs. It’s disappointing, not to see Diljit Dosanjh’s AK47 in the movie.

All in All (About Movie) –
All in all, the movie is big on shot making but short in concept, rich in looks but poor in story. Hero – Naam Yaad Rakhi is not the one to remember for too long.

Star Rating –
From punjabgold.com, Hero – Naam Yaad Rakhi gets 2.5/5.
