Harbhajan Mann

Biography

Harbhajan Mann, a singer turned actor is born under the goat sign as on 30th December 1965 in a small village known as Khemuana in Punjab (India). He was born to S. Harnek Mann and S. Dilip Kaur. After the sudden demise of his mother, he was called by his Eldest sister, Surinder Kaur to live with her in Surrey (Canada). He then with his younger brothers named Darshan Singh Mann, Jasvir Mann and Gursewak Mann and sisters named Murti Kaur and Jaswinder Kaur shifted to Canada in the year 1980, when he was just of 12 years.

In 1980, while attending high school in Canada, he started singing as an amateur and he also performed in the local shows for the community of South Asia. He started learning music from his music guru S. Karnail Singh Paras Ramuwalia. With the release of his album called “Chithiye ne Chithiye” in Canada, he got his first professional break and this album became instant success in Punjab (India) as well.
Mann came back to his motherland when he realized that Punjabi music has limited scope in Canada. After coming back, he started recording his albums in Punjab.

Till 1999, the super melodious voice of Harbhajan Mann was so far from the ears of his listeners and fans. Later with the help of some promotional efforts by T-series and MTV India, Mann’s album “Oye Hoye” became worldwide popular. As he turned into a playback singer as well as an actor, he started giving his voice to the actors. He himself is not only a fabulous singer but also an outstanding actor of Punjabi cinema. With the support of Bollywood cinematographer, Manmohan Singh, Mann stepped towards the Punjabi cinema.

T-Series agreed to invest in Punjabi cinema for them. Punjabi cinema trend was changed when in 2002, when “Jee Aayan Nu” hit the cinema screens in Punjab. The timeline started increasing after that and “Asa Nu Maan Watna Da”, “Dil Apna Punjabi”, “Mitti wajaan Mardi”, “Mera Pind – My Home” “Jag Jeondiyan De Mele”, “Heer Ranjha” and “Yaara O Dildaara” were released.

He married with Harmandeep Mann who is the grand daughter of Karnail Paras Ramuwalia, Harbhajan’s first guru. Mann is blessed with 3 children named Avkash, Sahar and Meher. He resides in Mohali and likes to spend his all his free time with his family and friends. He is very much attached to his cultural roots and Punjabi language. He always motivate the youngsters to learn, speak and love the Punjabi language.
